Introduction
Effective cash management is an essential part of a successful business plan. This means forecasting the flows of money in and out of your business and accordingly. Cash management is therefore, the monitoring and maintaining of cash flow to ensure that a business has enough funds to function. Investments, bill payments, and unexpected liabilities can affect a business’ inflows and outflows, and in turn their cash management.
The aim of cash management is to ensure that the entity has enough cash to meet all obligations. Cash management for businesses involves optimizing cash and other liquid assets, investing in the right channels and minimizing operational and overhead costs. The big three of cash management are inventory, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
AP or accounts payable management involves managing money that a business owes to vendors, suppliers, and other creditors for services or goods rendered. AR, or accounts receivable management, is the opposite. This involves managing the money a business is owed by customers for services or goods rendered.
