Introduction
The shop floor is the production area, such as in a factory or another working space and is the floor where workers produce goods. The term “shop floor” refers to the area of a factory where production takes place.
The shop floor excludes the area used or designated for administrative activities. A shop floor in Manufacturing is the setting where production occurs. It includes the key facilitators of that production: manufacturing equipment, equipment operators, automation equipment, handling equipment, inventory operations, maintenance technicians and more.
The concern of every employer (organization) is about optimizing efficiency and how to increase enhance or manage productivity. Therefore, each employee must optimize efficiency and productivity of his/her output even with less input or resources consumed. Productivity is a measurement of the efficiency of production, taking the form of a ratio of the output of goods and services to the input of factors of production. Labour productivity takes account of inputs of employee hours worked; capital productivity takes account of inputs of machines; and marginal productivity measures
the additional output gained from an additional unit of input.
