Introduction:
Finance for Non-Finance Managers equips leaders in any department (HR, Marketing, Ops) with core financial literacy to understand financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash low), budgets, costs, profitability, and performance metrics, enabling confident, data-driven decisions that align with overall company strategy, improve resource use, and boost financial health, without needing an accounting degree.
A “Finance for Non-Finance Managers” course typically covers core financial principles, financial statement analysis, budgeting, and capital investment decisions. The goal is to equip non-financial professionals with the skills to understand financial data, manage budgets, and make informed business decisions.
Course Contents
Module One: Introduction to Accounting Concepts
o Understanding basic accounting terminology and principles.
o The difference between cash basis and accrual basis accounting.
o Key terms like assets, liabilities, equity, revenue, and expenses.
Module Two: Financial Statements Analysis
o How to read, prepare, and interpret the three primary financial statements: the Income Statement (Profit & Loss), the Balance Sheet (Statement of Financial Position), and the Cash Flow Statement.
o Calculating and interpreting key financial ratios (profitability, liquidity, solvency) to assess a company’s financial health.
Module Three: Budgeting and Cost Management
o The purpose and process of budgeting (operational, capital, cash budgets).
o Differentiating between fixed and variable costs and applying cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis and break-even analysis.
o Techniques for cost control, overhead allocation, and variance analysis.
Module Three: Working Capital Management
o Understanding the concept and importance of working capital.
o Strategies for managing inventory, accounts receivable, and accounts payable to optimize liquidity and efficiency.
Module Four: Capital Budgeting and Investment Decisions
o Evaluating long-term investment opportunities (capital expenditures).
o Applying appraisal techniques such as Payback Period, Return on Investment (ROI), Net Present Value (NPV), and Internal Rate of Return (IRR).
o Understanding the time value of money concept.
Module Five: Financial Planning and Strategy
